Loud knock from steering mechanism

After I flat towed my scout to IHWR I have had increased play in my steering wheel specially noticeable moving right and left from dead center. Now I also have a loud knocking sound at times coming from steering box or some other part of the steering mechanism. Sound only occurs wheels on the ground and towards end of turning radius to the left. I jacked the front end up and attempted to wiggle the front wheels top to bottom and side to side and no noticeable play consistent with ball joint issues. Sound definitely coming from higher up like the steering box but it was recently rebuilt and in good order.
