67 800 side tank issue

The gasket for the sending unit is made of cork- my question is there another gasket type I can use? I just replaced the gasket a couple of years ago and I believe it has failed because when I fill my tank it leaks UNTIL it gets below the sending unit gasket - any ideas- this is a weird one
